Today I worked on my pitch, and I’m mostly finished with it. There are some things I need to check in with Megan about, such as the food, as well as whether additional lighting would be necessary. Additionally, about the heating and how that should be sustained and monitored, there was mention of coding a moisture and heat monitor with Arduino, which would require extra supplies that I don’t know about. Anyways, I obviously have more research to do, so I’m going to go do that now.

I haven’t journaled in a while because last week we only had one wisrd block.
Last week I did come up with my research question, which is:
How can jumping spiders' behavior be used to explore how they process the world through their senses?
And I just had my check-in with Megan, and now I'm going to work on my pitch and the actual research for the experiments.

Hi
ok so I’ve finished research on the care of the jumping spider, and now I’m looking into the enclosure and heat management. For monitoring temperature, I'll probably make an Arduino temperature and humidity sensor so I can have data even when I’m not there. Megan says she’ll help me with that. I’m not entirely sure what that will entail because I mostly only worked with breadboards in Neuroscience. I also need to find the right feeder bugs for the spider, but it all depends on how old the spider is. If the spider is a juvinile than I need to feed it small prey, like wingless fruit flies; if it’s older, then I could feed it things like crickets or meal/wax worms.

Heyyyy
Nothing much going on in the past week. Mostly research, and it can be found at the same link as before, ill put it at the bottom.
Based on my research, I think I have to find an enclosure that’s plastic and hopefully opens on the side. I need air holes on the side because of airflow. Humidity is a lot easier to manage than I thought it would be; all I have to do is water the substrate and/or mist every day. For heat, it’s more complicated than I thought; I will most likely have to artificially heat the enclosure because Wizard is so unbelievably cold.
Also, hopefully tomorrow my mom will be able to take me to Allen's Pets, and I can see what species of jumping spiders they have, so I might be able to research them and figure out what to get and how to prepare the enclosure for them.

imma lock in today and do more research on the little jumping spider men.
i did a lot more research about feeding, webs, lifespan, and molting.
MOLTING IS SCARY AND SAD OMG
So the main thing I’m taking from today is that enviornmental conditions such as moisture are very important because not only can that affect the molt, but also the general well-being of the spider, so I need to try to replicate the spider’s natural habitat as closely as I can.

ok so for the past couple of days I’ve been working with the embroidery machine, and it’s been iffy. I embroidered a fish and tried to embroider the quote “child predator but 4 science”(Megan); that one didn’t really work. Ash said I need a stabilizer for the fabric; I probably do. Anyways, I started researching how to care for the jumping spiders, how to feed them, and their enclosures and all that. I got a lot of info from one main article today; I’ll link that and my Google Doc at the bottom. I’m not copy-pasting all the stuff I wrote; I can just check the editing history and all that.

ok so highkey this is my second time writing this cus my first one didn’t save cus I didn’t save it.
anyways I’m hyped. I have a large possibility to get a jumping spider and test its brain and all that, which would be so cool, but I have to do research, learn what to test, how to test, and how to get the accurate measurements. anyways

also megan is getting this really cool embroidery machine that is gonna be me and Ash’s baby, and I can’t wait to set it up.
